ChatFAI is worth investigating if you want a character with an explicit bio, reference documents and the option to share a scene with other characters. Its most useful documented distinction is between how a character behaves and what information it can draw on. If you prefer a guided visual and personality setup, Cherrypop’s creator is another approach to compare.
Several central ChatFAI help articles were last updated July 19, 2025. Check the current account interface if a particular control is essential to your workflow.
The documented creation path
ChatFAI’s creation guide directs a signed-in user to My Characters, then the plus control. It describes a name, description, tags and optional detailed bio, a display picture, public/private visibility and a voice toggle before saving. Visibility is a sharing setting; it is not proof of local processing or a security audit.
Those fields answer different questions. A short description helps someone choose the character. A detailed bio describes behavior and background. An image supplies appearance. Avoid expecting the image alone to communicate an attitude or expecting a long public description to replace clear behavioral instructions.
A useful bio is specific about behavior
The bio-writing guide supports several writing formats and discusses personality, reply style and avoiding control of the user’s actions. The practical choice is the format you can maintain clearly, not the one that resembles computer code most closely.
Consider an original character, Beatrice, a 43-year-old stage manager preparing a community production. Her bio might say that she is organized, dryly funny and calm under time pressure. Her replies should be concise, and she should ask the visiting volunteer which task they want to take. Do not also instruct her to deliver a long monologue after every question; that would conflict with the intended rhythm.
Put reference facts in a separate source
The Knowledge Source guide describes attaching PDF, Word or text documents, with a stated limit of ten documents per character and 30 MB per document. That is a documented upload allowance, not a guarantee that the model will accurately use every fact in every response.
| Your material | Example for Beatrice | Why separate it |
|---|---|---|
| Bio | Calm, organized stage manager; asks the visitor to choose a task. | It controls the intended voice and behavior. |
| Reference document | A short original rehearsal schedule and room list. | These are facts the character may need, rather than personality traits. |
| Current scene | A volunteer arrives before the evening rehearsal. | It establishes the immediate situation. |
A compact rehearsal note could contain three facts: the cast meeting is at 6 p.m., props are checked in the rehearsal room, and the main stage stays closed until the lighting inspection ends. These details are invented for this example. They give the conversation something concrete to discuss without uploading unrelated personal records or a giant folder of inconsistent drafts.
If the schedule changes, update the source you control. A document limit is a ceiling, not a reason to fill every slot. Short, internally consistent material is easier for you to inspect and correct; this review does not promise a particular retrieval success rate.
Group chats and developer credits are separate features
The group-chat help article describes opening a character conversation, choosing Edit Conversation from its menu, adding other characters and saving. In the theatre example, adding a lighting designer gives the scene another defined role. Give each participant a reason to be there rather than creating several nearly identical voices.
Separately, ChatFAI’s developer page offers API access with an API key and purchased API message credits. Do not assume that a consumer chat subscription includes an identical developer allowance. This review is about the character workflow, not an API implementation tutorial.
What to establish before a paid commitment
ChatFAI’s terms describe recurring monthly or annual subscriptions, cancellation through account management or support, and promotional codes that apply to the first charge. Refund requests are considered individually. We did not establish a complete current account price-and-entitlement table, so no universal monthly price is quoted here.
The useful purchase question is narrow: does your account’s offer include the creation, knowledge and conversation capacity your project needs? The existence of a help article establishes a documented feature, not that every plan provides unrestricted access to it.
Where Cherrypop fits
Cherrypop is worth considering when your priority is a guided original-character setup. In the creator, choose realistic or anime styling, appearance and personality, then use Scenario, First Message and Additional Personality Details to establish the interaction.
For Beatrice, the theatre visit belongs in Scenario and her invitation to choose a task belongs in First Message. You can manually reuse your own concept without assuming Cherrypop supports ChatFAI document uploads or group-chat controls. Cherrypop also provides separate image and video generation workflows.
Cherrypop is free to start with limits, with Premium or Cherries required for some features. Choose it when the creation-and-chat route fits your character project.
Our recommendation
Shortlist ChatFAI when structured character knowledge is central to your project and the current account offer supports it. For a character-first experience with a guided setup, create your companion on Cherrypop.
