HammerAI’s most useful distinction is local versus cloud operation. The same desktop application can use either, so “I installed the app” does not tell you where a conversation is processed. Choose the route first, then compare paid cloud features. If you mainly want to design a character and start chatting in the browser, Cherrypop’s character creator offers a different, hosted workflow.
Local, cloud and storage are separate choices
HammerAI’s FAQ describes local models on its Windows, Mac and Linux desktop app, plus cloud models on the web and desktop. It says local chat can work without an account and cloud activity uses its servers. Those are provider descriptions; this article does not certify privacy or establish that every operation in the app is offline.
| Route | What it implies for the decision |
|---|---|
| Desktop with a local model | Your computer must run the selected model; confirm installation and model requirements. |
| Desktop with a cloud model | An installed interface still uses a remote service. |
| Browser chat | Treat it as the documented cloud route. |
| Cloud image or speech generation | Budget separate network-dependent media operations. |
This avoids a common category mistake. Storing a chat history on a device and generating its replies on that device are different operations. A local-looking interface can still send a prompt to a remote model. Conversely, a local text model does not make a cloud image tool local.
The displayed cloud plan cards
The pricing page showed these monthly cards:
| Tier | Monthly price | Monthly card credit allowance | Maximum context on card |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | US$0 | None | 8,192 tokens |
| Starter | US$9 | 1,500 | 16,384 tokens |
| Advanced | US$18 | 3,500 | 32,768 tokens |
| Ultimate | US$35 | 9,000 | 65,536 tokens |
The cards list 600 cloud messages per day for Free and unlimited cloud messaging for paid tiers. The page says credits pay for image generation and text-to-speech: ten per image and five per speech generation. Monthly credits expire; purchased top-ups persist. These are published terms, not measured charges or output-success rates.
There is a material inconsistency: a lower FAQ on the same page gives larger monthly balances of 2,000, 5,000 and 12,000. Model counts also differ between sections. We used the prominent plan-card figures above, but the actual checkout entitlement needs confirmation before purchase. Do not assume the larger numbers will be granted.
A mixed-media budget, without pretending every result is usable
Using the stated operation rates, fifty image generations and one hundred speech generations require 50 × 10 + 100 × 5 = 1,000 credits. Under the displayed 1,500-credit Starter card, that leaves 500 credits for other eligible operations. This arithmetic assumes those published rates apply; it does not predict the length of the speech, media quality or charges for failed jobs.
The practical decision is whether you need more media, a particular cloud model or a larger supported context. Paying US$9 more to move from Starter to Advanced changes a bundle. It is not simply purchasing 2,000 additional credits, and the conflicting FAQ makes it especially important to retain the offer attached to your account.
Keep retries in the creative plan without inventing billing rules. If a completed image is not the version you want and you intentionally generate another, that is another requested operation. This review does not establish whether a failed or refused operation consumes credits.
Use the current download route
The mobile page currently marks the Android app as temporarily unavailable even though other copy still says Android is supported. Follow the current official download notice, not a similarly named store result. That temporary availability issue does not prove the browser or desktop service has stopped working.
Where Cherrypop is worth trying
Cherrypop is a good task match when you want character creation and hosted interaction without making local-model installation your project. Its creator includes realistic and anime styles plus appearance and personality controls, with Scenario, First Message and Additional Personality Details for the interaction setup.
For an original character such as Iris, a 40-year-old antique-radio restorer, keep the stable traits separate from the immediate problem. Her patient curiosity is personality; the radio that has arrived without a label is the scenario; her question about its origin is the opening message. That gives the conversation somewhere to begin without promising a specific generated reply.
Cherrypop also supports separate image and video generation. It is free to start with limits, and some operations require Premium or Cherries. It is a hosted alternative to consider, not an offline replacement or a proven privacy upgrade over HammerAI.
Our recommendation
Choose HammerAI for the local-versus-cloud flexibility only after matching the route to your actual needs. Resolve the published allowance discrepancy before paying. If your goal is to create and interact with a character now, start that character on Cherrypop.
