Muah AI is worth evaluating if you want to configure a companion in detail, especially when character cards and separate appearance, personality and writing controls appeal to you. Its documentation requires careful reading: resetting a chat, importing a character and changing a subscription are different operations. If you prefer to begin with a guided character setup, Cherrypop’s creator is an alternative worth considering.
Muah’s settings and card guides are dated December 18, 2023; its FAQ shows an August 17, 2026 update. Check the current account controls before relying on instructions from an older guide.
The useful part of Muah: separate the character controls
The Companion Settings guide separates appearance, personality, texting style, prior context and meeting location. That is a more useful way to understand the product than treating one long character description as responsible for everything.
| What you want to change | Documented control | Keep it focused on |
|---|---|---|
| Visual description | Appearance field | A small set of distinguishing visual details |
| Character behavior | Personality field | Temperament, motives and conversational habits |
| Reply presentation | Texting-style field | Length, tone and formatting |
| Established facts | Remembered-context field | Information the scene should begin with |
| Opening situation | Location field | Where the conversation starts |
Consider an original character, Rowan, a 34-year-old bookshop owner. A calm, curious personality belongs in the behavioral description. Short replies without emojis belong in the style instruction. The fact that you are returning a borrowed atlas belongs in the starting context. The bookshop after closing is the scene. These details do different jobs; repeating all of them in every field makes later corrections harder to diagnose.
Keeping these settings separate lets you change one requirement without rewriting the entire character. If the reply is too long, adjust style before discarding the personality concept.
Importing a card does not complete every setting
Muah’s import/export guide describes an importer for JSON or image-based cards. It also says a custom card normally overwrites Core Data while other fields still need attention. In particular, the guide tells users to supply appearance, personality and texting details alongside the imported material.
The same documentation distinguishes several card versions and notes that not every extra field is used by Muah. File compatibility is therefore not the same as feature compatibility. A card can be accepted without every instruction having the effect its creator intended.
For your own original character, retain a plain-text copy of the essentials: identity, personality, scene, greeting and any important continuity notes. Then check the corresponding fields after an import. This makes the character understandable even if you later choose a different tool; it is not a claim that every platform imports the same file.
Memory and a chat restart are not the same thing
The general FAQ describes a restart as archiving conversation memory rather than necessarily erasing it. It also acknowledges that old details can sometimes reappear. Read this as the provider’s description of its controls, not proof of perfect recall or deletion.
A useful choice follows from that distinction. If you want a fresh scene with the same character, a restart may serve a different purpose from changing the character’s established background. If a fictional fact is wrong, correct the relevant description rather than assuming every new chat will undo it. We have not verified how reliably these actions behave in a current account.
Access and pricing: what the public pages establish
Muah’s public information page directs signed-in users to account settings for membership purchases and billing management. It does not provide a complete current price-and-entitlement table. This review therefore does not quote a universal subscription price or infer which offer your account will receive.
Its public material also uses changing or overlapping descriptions of app access and media availability. The FAQ discusses browser access and an Android download while saying store apps are not offered. We would use links supplied by the official site rather than treating a similarly named store listing as the same service. Do not buy a plan for a feature whose availability you have only inferred from an old explanation.
| Before choosing a paid offer | The specific answer you need |
|---|---|
| Conversation use | Included model/access and the applicable message allowance |
| Character customization | Which card and settings controls the offer exposes |
| Media use | Current operation availability and any separate usage charge |
| Recurring payment | Amount due, renewal interval and where cancellation is managed |
These checks should lead to a buying decision, not an endless feature hunt. If custom-card configuration is the main attraction, establish that access first. If you mainly want to start chatting with a character, compare that simpler path before paying for capabilities you may never use.
Why consider Cherrypop alongside Muah?
Cherrypop offers a direct route from character concept to character interaction. In the character creator, choose a realistic or anime style and work through appearance and personality controls. Scenario, First Message and Additional Personality Details let you supply the situation and tone in named fields.
For the bookshop example, you can carry over your own character concept without assuming a Muah card import exists. Define Rowan’s opening situation, write the first greeting and specify the conversational traits you want. Cherrypop also provides image and video generation as separate media workflows. Those are relevant options if you want more than text, but they are not a promise of identical controls or results.
The reason to try Cherrypop is the fit between a character you want to shape and the interaction you want to have. It is free to start with limits; some features and media operations require Premium or Cherries.
Our verdict
Muah’s documented character controls are its clearest reason to investigate further. Approach its public access descriptions carefully and base a purchase on the actual offer attached to your account. If your priority is creating a character and getting into the conversation, start that character on Cherrypop with a focused personality, scene and opening message.
