Tipsy Chat makes more sense when you separate three things: access to characters, the gems that pay for activity, and the controls that shape memory. A paid plan is one way to fund use; it is not the only way to chat. If your priority is defining an original character and getting into the scene, Cherrypop’s creator is an alternative worth considering.
Start with the gem rules
The subscription FAQ says you can chat without subscribing while you have gems, including earned gems. Monthly subscription gems are blue and expire at the refresh; purchased or earned red gems persist. Activity spends blue first. Longer actual memory use, reply length and model choice affect message cost; the composer estimates it before sending.
Here is a made-up balance example using those documented rules, not a claim about a real account or message price. Suppose you have 400 blue gems and 150 red gems, then perform activity costing 500 gems. The spending order uses all 400 blue plus 100 red, leaving 50 red. If you instead stop after spending 100 gems and the billing period ends, the remaining 300 blue expire while the 150 red remain.
That is why an unused monthly allowance is not a growing savings balance. Pick the smallest recurring commitment that matches the activity you expect to do, then compare occasional top-ups separately. A large allowance can still be poor value if most of it expires untouched.
What the published tiers add
The plan comparison lists these monthly blue-gem allowances and creation limits. We have not verified account-specific subscription prices, so this table compares entitlements rather than pretending to provide a complete price quote.
| Tier | Monthly blue gems | Role Cards | Pinned Memory |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | No monthly subscription allowance | 3 | Not included |
| Get a Taste | 1,200 | 10 | Not listed as included |
| Standard | 4,000 | 20 | 2k |
| Premium | 15,000 | Unlimited | 3k |
| Deluxe | 30,000 | Unlimited | 4k |
Standard and above also list unlimited Inspirations; Premium and Deluxe list chat downloads. The page shows temporary annual-offer extras separately. Keep those extras out of your ordinary monthly budget, and do not treat a discounted first purchase as a verified future renewal amount.
Long memory and pinned memory solve different problems
Tipsy’s FAQ distinguishes longer context from Pinned Memory. Supported models can offer a large memory limit without a subscription, but more context actually used can cost more gems. Pinned Memory is a paid feature beginning at Standard. Neither establishes perfect recall.
| Problem in your story | Decision to make |
|---|---|
| A key background fact must remain prominent | Consider whether a concise pinned note addresses the need. |
| Recent events are falling outside the active context | Check the selected model and memory setting before assuming a higher subscription fixes it. |
| Each message is becoming more expensive | Compare the composer estimate after reviewing actual context and reply length. |
| You want more characters to organize | Compare Role Card capacity separately from memory. |
For an original example, imagine Celia, a 44-year-old botanist managing a winter conservatory. “Celia is preparing the glasshouse for tomorrow’s public opening” is a compact persistent premise. A long transcript of every plant she inspected is a different kind of information. Decide which facts must remain prominent before paying to carry a larger block of text through every reply.
Keeping scene details separate from the conversation budget helps keep a scene understandable even when the model’s interpretation is imperfect. Keep durable copies of your own character notes so that revising a setup does not depend on reconstructing it from memory.
Why a character-first reader might choose Cherrypop
Cherrypop’s creation workflow gives you realistic and anime styles, appearance and personality settings, and named fields for Scenario, First Message and Additional Personality Details. That is a useful route when you already know the character you want and would rather specify the opening interaction directly.
For the conservatory example, put the upcoming opening in Scenario, write Celia’s invitation to help in First Message and keep her patient, observant manner in the personality details. Let the user decide which task to take instead of writing their response for them. This does not require claiming that Cherrypop has Tipsy’s pinned-memory or gem system.
Cherrypop supports character chat and separate image/video generation. It is free to start with limits; Premium or Cherries may be required for some features. Choose it for that supported workflow, not an unmeasured promise that its memory or costs are superior.
Our verdict
Tipsy is worth considering if you want model and memory choices and are willing to track the associated usage budget. Understand the gem balance before committing to a larger plan. If creating a focused companion is the immediate goal, start with Cherrypop’s character creator.
